Getting Through It: Techie turns author
KIRO Radio
Being laid off could have been the best thing to happen to a Seattle father.
Roger Hacket, a techie recently laid off from Microsoft, turned to a passion he has always had in his back pocket, being a children's author.
Now with more time on his hands Roger can pursure what he has always wanted to do; write. "I have always wanted to be an author ever since I can remember," said Hacket. So with and elbow nudge from his wife, he put his family stories on paper.
This Saturday, March 21st, Mockingbird Books in Green Lake welcomes Hacket to read and sign copies of his newest story book creation titled "Ryan and Robbie's Bike Ride Adventure," a story inspired by his own children and family. "My wife is Chinese and I wanted to tell a story about multi-cultural families and how they balance their culture with their lives as Americans," said Hacket.
For Roger, being laid off was his start to a happy ending; a fresh start. "I think it is absolutely a blessing in disguise and I have faith that is this going to be something amazing for me, and, people in the Northwest are going to love," rejoices Hacket.
In addition to his stories and writing, Roger will be focusing his time on adding new children's games to his website and eventually hoping to become a place where such items can be put up for sale.
